PROF. DR. J. HENK COERT

Dept. Plastic Surgery UMC Utrecht

Henk Coert is a plastic surgeon dedicated to the treatment of hand, wrist and peripheral nerve problems. He served as president of the Netherlands Society for Surgery of the Hand and as Editor of the Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume) and a member of the council of the American Society of Peripheral Nerve. He participated in more than 90 peer reviewed articles, wrote several book chapters and is involved in numerous courses, nationally and internationally. Currently he is professor and chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery at the UMC Utrecht. He is the Vice Secretary General of the European Wrist Arthroscopy Society and a member of the editorial board of three other peer reviewed journals.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR DR. JOOST W. COLARIS

Department of Orthopaedics & Sportsmedicine Erasmus MC

Joost Colaris finished his doctoral degree in medicine at the university of Leuven and graduated cum laude at the University of Leiden. Since 2010 he works as an orthopedic surgeon in the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam with a focus on elbow, wrist and hand pathology. In 2014 he passed the FESSH examination with a best diploma award and successfully defended his thesis ‘Forearm fractures in children’ at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. He participated in more than 100 peer reviewed articles and is a board member of the association for orthopedic hand surgeons and a member of the faculty of several courses on hand and wrist surgery for both adults and children.

DR. WILLEM D. RINKEL

Dept. Plastic Surgery Plastisch Chirurgen Oost

Willem D. Rinkel is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon based in ZGT/MST Twente (NL) with a special interest in peripheral nerve problems. Trained at both Erasmus University Rotterdam and Utrecht University in the Netherlands, he obtained his PhD on this topic in 2020. His main fields of interest are somatosensory testing, predictive modelling and advanced statistical models in light of entrapment neuropathy and the diabetic foot care. He participates in several studies, including a large national randomized controlled trial studying the effects of lower extremity nerve decompression surgery (DECO trial). He participated in more than 25 peer-reviewed studies and coordinated several national meetings on hand surgery related topics, including dissection courses.

DRS ANANDI VAN LOON

Rehabilitation Specialist Hand & Pols Revalidatie Nederland

Anandi van Loon gained her Bachelor of Arts at Lucia Marthas Institute for Performing Arts in 2002 and has worked as a professional dancer and performer in several television and musical theatre productions. In 2009 she finished her doctoral degree in medicine and graduated cum laude at the Vrije University of Amsterdam. In 2010-2015 she worked in The Medical Centre for Dancers and Musicians with a special focus on hand- and wrist disorders. Since 2016 she is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialist and has been certified by the European Board of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine. She was a board member of the Nederlandse Vereniging voor Dans- en Muziekgeneeskunde. Currently she works at the Hand and Wrist Centre for patients with complex hand and wrist problems and as the health coordinator at Lucia Marthas Institute for Performing Arts.

Dr. Shirley D. Stougie

Dr. Stougie studied Physiotherapy in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and specialized in Hand Therapy through an in-company training program completed in 2009 under the mentorship of Gwendolyn van Strien. Her clinical expertise led to close collaboration with the Departments of Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgery at Amsterdam University Medical Center and University Medical Center Utrecht resulting in a PhD position. She successfully defended her PhD thesis “Clinical Outcomes of Wrist and Aptis Distal Radioulnar Joint Arthroplasty” at the University of Utrecht in 2025. Currently she combines her work as a hand therapist with that of a researcher across several academic hospitals, focusing on clinical outcomes and patient-centered hand care.

Karin Boer

Karin Boer is an occupational therapist since 1996 and a certified hand therapist since 2010. She obtained her European hand therapy certification in 2018. She served five years as secretary and seven years as president of the Dutch Society for Hand Therapy. In 2023-2025, she was president of the European Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy and currently serves as past president. She is a national and international speaker at congresses and symposia, organizer of the Esser Masterclass Hand Therapy and works as an instructor for both Esser Masterclass Hand Therapy and the Dutch Society for Occupational Therapy, focusing on hand rehabilitation. In addition to her educational and organizational roles, she works as an occupational therapist and practice manager at the Hand and Wrist Centre in The Hague (NL).
